While holding closed end of retaining ring with flat edge of pliers (needle nose works well), place retaining ring on top end of impact drive. With finger (or another pair of open pliers) gently rock ring down over the top end of impact drive, allowing for the beveled edge of the impact drive to pry open the retaining ring enough to slid e down to the retaining ring grove/slot. Once part of the retaining ring slide into the drive ring slot continue to push the ring around the shaft until the entire ring snaps into place of the retainer ring slot. Try to always have a hold of the ring while pressing down on to the shaft as the ring has spring-like memory and will tend to snap upward into the air (and become lost) if not properly seated in the ring slot.
