Recoil starter assy internal spring broken

Logan from Gold Bar, Washington

8 of 8 people found this instruction helpful.
Difficulty Level:
A Bit Difficult
Total Repair Time:
15 - 30 mins
Parts Used:
753-08120
Removed the old recoil assembly. Looked at the 2 spring loaded flippers that engage the recoil mechanism, determined that they needed pinned back to install the new recoil housing. Used 2 twigs that were smooth and about 6 inches long. Put housing on the trimmer and lastly took out the twigs so that the spring loaded flippers could engage the recoil mechanism.
Don\'t get too rough pulling on the rope when starting, the internal spring acts as a shock absorber to make it a smooth pull on the motor. Yanking on the rope will only break the internal spring.
If you aren\'t into replacing the recoil mechanism they make a drill motor attachment to turn over the engine that works pretty slick.
