?This is an authentic OEM sourced starter housing assembly that is designed for Troy-Bilt string trimmers. It is the starter assembly that allows user to pull-start the engine. It is a complete assembly which includes a plastic shroud, starter pulley, starter spring, the pull rope and the grip. Please note the hardware to secure this assembly is sold separately.

2) Remove the broken starter
3) Install the new housing tighten up 8 removed screws.
Nothing special needed very easy swap out.

Recoil starter assy internal spring broken

Don\'t get too rough pulling on the rope when starting, the internal spring acts as a shock absorber to make it a smooth pull on the motor. Yanking on the rope will only break the internal spring.
If you aren\'t into replacing the recoil mechanism they make a drill motor attachment to turn over the engine that works pretty slick.
