Unfortunately, over time the hardware may get damaged or lost eventually requiring a replacement. One durable metal retainer is included. Refer to the appropriate diagrams for your model for the exact location and the correct application. You may need snap-ring pliers to perform this repair.

All that was needed was a screwdriver and wrench to replace lower drive shaft housing assembly as this came with the drive cable ! This is not noted when ordering new lower drive shaft. No need to disassemble whole trimmer assembly.

Followed the directions on the video on your site for how to repair this. The only difficulty I had was getting the retainer ring off. It would not budge, so I had to take a hand saw and cut the plastic spool cover in two and then cut the retainer ring in two. I had replacement parts, but it was a battle to get to that stage. Once I got t hat off, I could replace the lower drive shaft and complete the repair as per the video.
