This is an authentic OEM part for use with Troy-Bilt, MTD, Ryobi and Yard-Man Trimmers. The lower drive shaft housing connects the upper drive shaft housing to the cutting head. This part is sold individually. The most common reason for replacing the drive shaft is if it is damaged or if the trimmer head won't spin. The tool that you will need to replace the lower drive shaft housing is a strap wrench.

All that was needed was a screwdriver and wrench to replace lower drive shaft housing assembly as this came with the drive cable ! This is not noted when ordering new lower drive shaft. No need to disassemble whole trimmer assembly.

Broken flexible shaft inside shaft housing

Using the Owner\'s Manual as a guide, remove lower shaft housing, guard, and trimmer head. Install new lower shaft housing then reinstall the trimmer guard and trimmer head. Repair is complete.

Easy fix. My Craftsman Weed Wacker comes with attachment feature, so driveshaft housing is designed to come apart. Only thing that was somewhat time consuming (but not by much) was removing the seven screws holding the string head protective guard. Special screw heads with their own unique slotted/Allen key pattern. Any Phillip\'s screw d river works in a pinch. Love my Weed Wacker.

Lower drive shaft wore through the sleeve

Sleeve was turning all the inner parts in the shaft so it barely turned. Only needed the sleeve but you can\'t get this alone, you need the entire lower curved section. Click out, remove the trimmer head, click in and put head back on. About as easy as it comes
