This air filter is an original sourced directly from Craftsman. The filters purpose is to keep dirt, dust and other contaminants from entering the carburetor and engine. You can clean this foam filter by putting it in a clean plastic bag with a little oil and rub the oil into the filter, then remove the filter and squeeze it in a paper towel to remove the excess oil. This is an individually sold part.

Removed the air filter cover, then the old filter.
Installed the new filter and replaced the cover.
Removed the old spark plug, Gapped the new plug @ 0.025 and installed it.

I didn\'t need the air filter as one came with the air filter assembly.

A medium with flat head screwdriver will do the job but the appropriate torx wrench just makes it easier. The steps are simple:

1) Remove the filter cover and air filter.

2) Remove three screws holding the assembly to the carbure tor. The assembly will simply pull away. There is one small tube attached to the backside of the assembly... disconnect this.

3 Connect this tube to the backside of the new assembly, line the assembly up to the carburetor and put those three screws in place. Put several drops of 30wt motor oil onto new filter and squeeze out the excess. Align the filter in place and put the filter cover on.

4) Celebrate \"another quality job well done\" hehe

This was a general repair of the fuel system after a full summer of use.

1. Removed and replaced the spark plug (don\'t forget to set the proper gap).
2. Used a clothes hanger hook to pull the fuel line and pick up out of the fuel tank, replaced the pick up and reinserted in the tank.
3. Removed the air filter cover and removed the four screws holding the carburetor along with the gasket and O-ri ng. Take care separating the carburetor from the fuel line
4. Replaced the O-ring and reattached the carburetor
5. Replaced the air filter gasket, inserted the new air filter, and reinstalled the air filter cover.

Unscrewed air filter housing which holds carb on , replace carb and filter housing installed new air filter. Two screws to remove gas tank removed hoses , replaced hoses and installed both bolts on new gas tank . Four pulls on cord and it was running great. no adjustments to carb at all. Took about 20 min.

Replaced the carguretor, spark plug and air filter. Filled with fresh gasoline. Primed the fuel line. Trimmer started on the second pull of the pull cord.
