The follower nut and is made of metal. This is an OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer and used in DeWALT saws. This is available as an individual replacement part. It may require a screwdriver, a set of pliers, and a socket set during installation. It will require replacing if it becomes stripped or broken.

Height screw was mashed into follower nut. The screw looked ok but the nut looked damaged.
You must remove the black faceplate to remove the screw and nut assembly
Removed the height adjustment rotating handle and the locking mechanism to allow for removal of the front face plate. With the use of two locking pliers I forced the Follower Nut off the badly cross threaded Height Adjustment Screw and was able to remove both. Simply reversed the procedure and replaced damaged parts with new. Tested the n

The two screws holding the locking lever for the table saw fence are also used to hold the front face plate and they are a real challenge to get started. I used a very small screw driver to line up the holes and was only then able to get them started without cross threading them.
