Remove the entire Motor Housing. Then remove the white wires for the armature brush assemblies and save them. I really started new. I took the new motor housing and installed the new field. ... Read moreg together with a piece of scrap wood and a small hammer. Replace the brush wires and reassemble everything. You will need to solder the black wire from the remote electronic assembly to the switch. I also used a wire nut on the solder joint. Take plenty of pictures with your phone as a reference. This helps with placing the wires in the proper slots. Total time was probably 2 and 1/2 hours with cleaning. Take your time. The rubber boot was the hardest part to take off.
Took the Milwaukee 6538-21 completely apart. It was difficult to get the armature out, because when the field shorted out, it melted the insulation towards the center, I drove the armature out with a piece of wood and hammer, fortunately it did not damage the armature, in the process. ... Read moreer boot on and off was a challenge and took some help, otherwise the repair was straight forward. The saw did not have that many hours on it, I suspect running it on low speed too long, was the cause of overheating. I was grateful to repair a $200 dollar saw for $35.
