Motor produced lots of sparks and was cutting out intermittently, eventually quit entirely.
This was a Rockwell heavy duty belt sander model 363 Type 1 though the new brushes were for a Porter-Cable belt sander with same model no. and they fit perfectly.
Replace the brushes as follows.
* unscrew the caps covering the brushes with a screw driver.
* remove the old brushes
* push the new brushes into the rec

* place the tabs on the contacts into the same cavity as the brushes and screw the caps back in. (I had to spread out the tabs a little with pliers so they would press on the sides and stay in place while screwing in the caps. Without doing this they kept falling out of place preventing the caps from pushing them into place)
* with the new brushes in, the motor worked perfectly
The challenge installing new brushes is that the springs need to be fully seated to install the caps. The springs don\'t want to stay down. I accomplished this by slightly bending the copper tabs out to press on the sides of slots which held the springs down long enough to get the caps on.
1. Took out brush caps and removed brushes
2. Removed all housing screws and switch handle screws.
3. Separated housing and removed armature
4. Used small bearing puller to remove bearings.
5. Pressed new bearings onto rebuilt armature and reassembled in reverse order.
