This was a \"See Spot Run\" type of repair. The challenge was to find a source for the parts. I put Porter Cable parts on an old Rockwell saw.

Tore down and started trying to recognize the fault with the port a band. Found that the motor bearings had gone out and needed to be replaced. The more that I tore apart the saw the more I recognized the need for other parts beside the motor bearings that needed replacing. Both front and rear band guide roller bearings needed to be renew ed (3 mini bearings on both sides of the blade opening) , a new seal in the gear box ( the gear box uses 90 WT). A major overall cleaning/ cleanup with air. Inspect and re-grease cage bearings in band sheaves. Put together with new parts.
What caused the motor bearing problem- Upon tear down I noticed a missing housing screw in the back section of the band saw body. In short this caused the housing to distort misaligned the motor bearings causing the problem due to the great tension that is placed on the housing that is needed to keep the band tight. A new screw was put back into the body to correct this problem which re-stiffened the body and keep the body alignment true. Band saw operates like new- cuts straight without any blade walk. A old heavy duty tool worth renewing that should last for many years. Gary C.
