Saw a 690 Series Porter Cable router at an auction that wouldn\'t start. Noticed that it was missing carbon brushes and caps. Replaced them and boom, it started. Thus, was able to get a router, plunge router accessory, and another adjustable base for $80.00. Was able to use your site to identify the correct replacement parts, install them and obtain an excellent tool for a boat load of savings.

I worked, sweated, toiled and even said a few unmentionable expletives as I simply screwed the replacement cap in place and snugged it with a flat blade screwdriver. Then it was nap time as I had worked so hard to repair the router.

I forgot the special instructions part. . . . . one must first remove the replacement cap f rom the plastic that it is shipped in,

The brush caps cracked when I was trying to install them

Screw drivers

Removed brush caps to check the brushes. This was extremely difficult lining up the brushes in their holders. I used a dental pick to hold them in place while screwing in the caps. This was way more difficult then you would think. I bent the brushes so they were held in place a little to get the brush cap started. This will take patience. Trying to jam the brushes in and screw on the cap was how I cracked the old caps because the brush was not properly in its holder.
