T ... Read more he piston and cylinder were completely wrecked. It looked like part of a piston ring had gotten caught up on the edge of an exhaust port and there was metal everywhere except where it should be. A new cylinder is expensive, and I balked at paying for a complete cylinder/piston assembly so the effort languished. Luck would have it-I found TWO of the same machine lying on the side of the road a few weeks later. These were much older and pretty wrecked and missing most of the plastic parts. I took those apart and was able to salvage the cylinder from one which was worn but not too bad.
I had three examples of what happens when you don\'t take care of these machines - a rogues gallery of various forms of piston damage.
I ordered the piston ring set from ereplacementparts, along with a few gaskets. Actually being so new the gaskets on the unit were in OK shape except for the cylinder head gasket which fell apart as I removed the original.
