Drive wheel grass deflector broken causing lawn debris to clog gear drive

Removed front wheel and drive gear to allow removal of the broken grass deflector. Replaced grass deflector using a special stepped washer, which was also broken and reinstalled drive gear and wheel.

Wheel mount brackets mis-aligned causing gears to mis-align and slip.

1. Removed drive wheels and wheel covers.
2. Remove snap rings and pinion gears.
3. Removed and cleaned woodruff keys and springs.
4. Cleaned axle and keyway.
5. Used file to remove burrs on axle shaft keyway.
6. Used pry bar to straighten wheel mount brackets.
7. Cleaned, lubricated and reinstalled key s and springs.
8. Installed new pinion gears, washers and snap rings.
9. Lubricated gears and installed wheel and cover assembly.

1. Removed the wheel, the locking pin, and the gear.
2. Cleaned the gear and the wheel.
3. Installed the new wheel cover, the gear, the lock pin and the wheel.

Removed the bolt from the rear wheel, then removed the wheels
Removed the wheel covers
Installed the new wheel covers
Cleaned the axle and lubed them a bit
Attached the wheels to the axle

Broken Wheel Cover - dirt binds the self propelled gear drive

1. Remove the wheel.
2. Remove broken wheel cover.
3. Clean the gears of all dirt and debris.
4. Replace the wheel cover.
5. Install the wheel.
6. Test and mow!

Wheel cover assembly was broken by flying debris. Grass and dirt then jammed the self-propel gear.

For starters, raise the front end of the mower by placing a weight on the mower handle, and pull the spark plug wire off of the plug.
1) Remove the wheel\'s axle bolt with 1/2\" socket.
2) Remove drive gear spring ring and drive gear (the gear just slides off of the shaft with some wiggling and jiggling--no puller needed).
