Removed the deck from mower. Easier to remove then I thought
Inspected and removed worn out parts. Got parts numbers from my manual.
Found Replacement Parts.Com on line and called the phone number.
Every part was on in stock. Delivered in a few days. Order was complete and accurate.
I used the impact wrench to brake off the bolts that hold the
mandrel assemblies. These are self taping screws that will not be reusable. Note: the mandrel assemblies had the required 4 screws in the box. I have a smooth running deck. Mower cuts like new again. As long as the motor is good I will rebuild the deck again.
Thank you Replacement Parts this was a great project.

Brake, torsion spring assembly were worn out.

Glenn from Charlottesville, Virginia

2 of 2 people found this instruction helpful.
Difficulty Level:
A Bit Difficult
Total Repair Time:
1- 2 hours
Tools:
Pliers, Screw drivers, Socket set, Wrench (Adjustable), Wrench set
Pulled mower deck from frame. Removed old brake and torsion spring assembly. Reattached the spring to the brake (difficult). My mower is a Craftsman 42\" deck. The brake, opposite the discharge side, has never lined up with the belt pulley. Instead of being paralell, it positions at an angle which causes the brake pad to wear at the very edge only. I found it impossible to reposition it for correction. I installed it \"as is\" and will inspect often for wear. Also, after the deck was reinstalled, I took time to do the leveling. I found that it was way out of line. Refer to this process in the owners manual, it is very important to have a good looking lawn.

Mower deck, parts almost worn out - Engine, replaced gaskets after valve adjustments

Paul from Cuba, Illinois

1 person found this instruction helpful.
Difficulty Level:
Easy
Total Repair Time:

Deck - removed old parts and installed new ones, simple repair.
Engine - Required valve adjustment due to hard starting, adjusted valves, ordered new gaskets, replaces, again a very simple repair.
No special tools or instructions necessary.
When replacing engine gaskets, ensure oil level in engine is at the proper level as
some oil (minimal) be lost during valve cover removal and reinstallation.
