The most common reason for replacing the drive control cable is if it is broken, causing the brake to not release even when the lever is pressed. This part is sold individually. The tool that you will need to replace the drive control cable is pliers.

Removed drive belt cover and placed the new drive cable next to the broken one. Installed the new drive cable starting with the drive pulley and worked up to the top/handle.
Pull spark plug wire.
Turn lawn mower on side (gas tank down)
Disconnect old drive cable from handle
Remove drive control cover.
Remove cable from drive control and mower deck
Install new cable to drive control, and mower handle
replace drive contril cover
