It is an authentic manufacturer-sourced replacement brush ring assembly which is specially designed for use with Porter Cable and DeWALT hammer drills. This part holds carbon brushes around the armature to provide a stable and a safe contact, over time components may wear out and begin to fail eventually requiring a replacement. This high-quality assembly is sold individually, keep in mind it consists of a durable plastic ring, two metal brush holders with attached spring. Please note that the carbon brushes are sold separately.

1. Disassembled the drill with Torx nut drivers. Slowly separate the housing halves and beware the round spring on the direction switch, it will jump out and try to hide from you.
2. Removed the broken speed selector knob and replaced it with the new part.
3. Removed the brush plate and brushes.
4. Unsoldered one of the
... Read more connections because solder had melted into the spade connector.
5. Installed the new brush plate.
6. Installed the armature and coil assembly.
7. Installed new brushes.
8. Assembled unit with Torx nut drivers paying close attention to wire routing, and carefully inserting the round spring for the direction switch.
Hardest thing about the repair was that the wires to the brush ring assembly were soldered on so you need to know how to do some simple soldering. Other then that it was a breeze to replace the brushes and the assembly.
