My Briggs powered mower with the \"Ready start\" carburetor ( no prime, no choke), wouldn\'t restart after the motor was hot. The spring inside of thermostat broke.

Use phillips head screwdriver to loosen the 2 screws on top cover, and remove.
Next, use a 5/16\" socket and remove the 3 bolts holding the gas tank assembly in place, and tilt the gas tank to the rear of mower.
Still with a 5/16 socket, remove the bolt holding dipstick in place, and just turn the dipstick to the side.
Next, with a 3/8\" socket, remove the 4 bolts holding the top shroud in place, and lift it towards the gas tank, which is already tilted towards the rear.
Next, with a 7/8\" socket, remove the 2 muffler bolts. Pull the muffler, gaskets, and old thermostat off of engine. Notice how the thermostat is in the groove of wind vane. Install new thermostat. Make sure the top of thermostat is in the groove of wind vane. Install all bolts in reverse order of how they were removed.

These items did not fix my problem. What really fixed the problem was a good cleaning of the carburetor bowl and jet plug.
