Took an old wire coat hanger made a smaller hook on one end to grab fuel filter and line to remove it from gas tank (cap end), replaced the cap.

The engine appeared to be running out of fuel. I deduced, after having replaced the fuel filter, that the tank cap was not allowing atmospheric pressure into the tank after the fuel pump had run for a while. This was creating a vacuum in the gas tank. Once I replaced the tank cap the problem was solved.
