Changed the old harness out by replacing with new.
Apparently had a bad connection or broken wire took along time to diagnose. Found it by accidentally pulling on wires to attach the ignition switch.
Simply replace connections one by one. Easy to do.
Just remember to save old fuse in case you need it. And the clip that
... Read more holds the fuse to the frame comes off and can be transferred as well.
No tools really needed except to attach ground wire. A 13 mm socket if I remember correctly.
Glad I changed it out. It was very frustrating, would start one day the next no start. Would test out that no electrical problem was present.

the main wiring harness had melted.... to large of a fuse had been installed.

I pulled the main wiring harness and all of it\'s attachment points, cleaned each of the switches and connections and replaced the burned / melted wires. No joy. An hour later, it was installed, and verified to be working perfectly. Couldn\'t be more pleased.
No special instructions or tools needed on this simple repair, just 50+ years of experience.
Removed old harness and plugged the new one right back in. Needed a couple tie wraps, t20 screw driver, and a 1/2ö socket. Ground wire had to be reattached with 1/2ö socket; everything else just plugs right back in.

Fed the new harness in along side of the old harness. Unhooked the couplings one at a time and attached the corresponding coupling on the new harness. It took a little longer than expected because clearance around some couplings was tight and the couplings were recalcitrant. In the future, keep the mice and the dogs out of the mower.

Wiring harness burned up someone replaced with too big off fuse so wires melted instead of blowing fuse and front spindles where bent making mower cut unlevel
