Took a hammer and beat the lock pin from the lower end of the spring assembly. Had to use a flat end nut driver to finish the pin. Then removed spring and replaced it with the new spring. Used the hammer to pound in the new lock pin. Then used grease inside grip handle and slid it over push button and slid into place. Used the top cap to finish.
Now the deck level adjustment works as it should.
