I had to drill out the rivets, But your great instructions covered that. The only thing I had in question was why was it so easy!!!. Thanks very much. Able to buy the whole kit was the best way to fix the spring & pull rope at the same time. Also I saved my old clutch just in case, It\'s made of plastic Fantastic. Saved about $ 75.00 if I \'d payed a shop. THANKS AGAIN FOR MAKING MY LIFE SIMPLE! AL

There are three ways that the old starter could be attached. Spot welded, riveted, or screwed on. The instructions that come with the new starter will cover all of these, so you can get your
mower running again.

1) Disassembled the mower (cosmetic cover and air filter cover assembly) to get to the fan shroud.
2) Rope was broken at the eyelet of the starter, attempted to just shorten it and tie a knot but when I went to re-tension it the spring broke :/ (nuts) so I had to order a new starter
3) New starter arrived, old starter was po p riveted to the shroud, had to drill the pop rivets out to remove.
4) New starter bolts up in place of the old one with nuts and bolts. (Note: They give you the bolts! (they don\'t show it in the diagram). Make sure you put the bolts in with the threads facing UP through the shroud, they will hit the blower if they\'re put in the other way.
5) It goes back together the way it came apart. Mower runs like a top again.

I needed to take the top of the engine cover off, and purchased the starter-rewind part. But in order to install the new starter housing with spring unit I cut off the rivets that held the old starter to the larger housing. I used a cutoff wheel on a Dremel tool, then cleared the holes on a drill press. Then it was easy to screw in the ne w part and re-assemble the mower. Started right up.
