Just what I needed, when I needed it
Needing a new drum shaft coupling for my drum sander immediately, I first contacted the manufacturer's parts department. They were out of stock, and none of their distributors in my area had any either, so I turned to eReplacements (as usual), and was happy to find that they had it in stock and could ship it to me for delivery on the next business day. I placed my order on a Friday afternoon, and I received the part Monday morning. Thank you eReplacements for getting my shop back in production so quickly.

The thing that really helped was building an carriage cradle to hold the motor and another one for the drum & housing, to keep them positioned in the correct plane. And that facilitated the removal of the bolts holding them all together without them crashing apart as the bolts came loose.
This technique was especially helpfu

Couplers had loosened to the point where the spider was torn to shreds
Loosened the 4 motor mounting bolts with a socket set. Removed both couplers with allen keys. Replaced sanding drum side with the new coupler and then motor side. Fit spider in the sanding drum side coupler and remounted motor back into place matching both couplers to each other. Closed any gaps between couplers and tightened with allen k

Spider gear and one half of the drum shaft coupling broke/sheared off
1. Lowered the drum to rest on two pieces of 2x4 lumber.
2. Removed the bolts that attach the drum carriage to the motor slide.
3. Pulled the drum carriage away from the motor slide to separate the two halves of the drum shaft coupling.
4. Loosened the set screws in the broken half of the drum shaft coupling and removed

5. Installed a new half of the drum shaft coupling and tightened the set screws.
6. Installed the spider between the two halves of the drum shaft coupling and pushed the drum carriage back into contact with the motor slide.
7. Installed and tightened the bolts connecting the drum carriage to the motor slide.
8. Followed the instructions in the owners manual to reset the level of the drum in relation to the feed belt.
Raised drum assembly,
Removed motor and height adjustment carriage,
Removed old broken coupling from motor shaft and drum shaft.
Replaced both with new part.
Re assembly of height carriage is difficult in that the lower two bolts are very difficult to get a wrench or socket on.

The parts were used on a Supermax 16-32. There are four bolts on the drum side to the frame that will need to be removed. The couplings have two alan set screw\'s that will need to be removed. The couplings slide off easy / some have said they had to use a puller (I did not). The replacement of these parts also solved the clicking noise t
... Read morehat I had since the first day of getting my \"NEW\" Supermax 16-32. I would not recommend replacing the spider without the couplings (2). Careful examination will show that they have damage and cause the new spider coupling to go bad. Total time was less than 15 minutes.
The four bolts holding the motor are difficult to get at. I used a socket with universal joint and still was difficult to get at. First loosen the two allen screws put them in a safe place they don\'t come with replacement screws take out the four bolts the motor could drop on the floor so hang onto the motor it is a little heavy place th
... Read moree motor on the bench the drum is also discounted. Take all allen screws out pull the couplings off you might need some p b blaster to loosen couplers you don\'t need a puller let the liquid wrench work it could just pull off if not use a large flat head screw driver to pry loose. There are key ways on both drum and motor couplings. Don\'t loose them clean the shafts put coupling on the motor first tighten. Then put the one on the drum side just tighten but leave a little loose you will make the adjustment with this coupling spray a little lubricant on the spider this will help keep the spider from binding when put together the couplings should fit tight against the spider make sure it is not bound up. It is great to have someone to hold the motor while putting all together my wife helped me. With everything tight your ready to go. One thing when you put the couplings on the shaft make sure the keys in the key ways are in the middle of the shaft they sometimes slide ahead of the couplings use a small screw driver to push them back in place. I couldn\'t find anything on the net to show you how to do this they recommend sending it out to be fixed it could be cheaper to buy a new sander. Just kidding keep everything together till you get your new parts and they come fast. Good luck
