The issue was troubleshooting that the regulator was the issue. I bought this replace kit from Amazon, but the issue remains the same. I noticed that the OEM regulator is different from this one. The spring that goes into the knob is a think spring, but with the new part installed. The knob doesn't open or close, but just keeps turning left & right. Also, the OEM has the round cap (it inserts into knob) white while this one is black.

Because I had a Type 2 of this particular compressor, I had two choices. Replace the whole manifold ($70+) or try the Regulator rebuild ($22). I took to lesser of the two and hoped it would fix it. It did. You must remove the two bolts holding the manifold to the frame and then remove the lock ring holding the regulator to the frame as w ell. Then pull the manifold out to get at the regulator. There were not instructions on disassembling the regulator, so you gotta figure it out. All you can really do is try to duplicate the exploded diagram. Replace ALL of the parts, don\'t have left overs!! Use plenty of the included lube too. Reverse the dis-assembly order and you should be fine.

Remove the star bit screws that hold the regulator assembly to the metal shroud. it is not necessary to remove the shroud. Manipulate the assembly out into the open and using a wrench remove the nut from the bottom. Replace with new parts following the provided instructions. The diagram is easy to follow. next, turn the regulator upright and remove the plastic adjustment knob. I used channel lock pliers to remove the plastic screw in part of the upper assembly. You don\'t have to squeeze hard, just firmly. replace with new parts and simply reassemble. It\'s that simple. Make sure to lightly oil the parts where indicated and fire that bad boy up and get back to work.
