Old collar was broken

Remove the top cover from the nail gun. The collar was broken so I pulled it off and cleaned up the pieces that had broken off of it. Put the new collar on the cylinder. Replace the top cover.

Removed the head to investigate. Observed damage to collar. Reviewed the diagram on website. Done deal. Have used this site a couple of times. Works awesome.

Porter Cable framer not firing and blowing air out back

Unscrew 4 allen screws from top cap of gun. Be careful on pulling top off - keep all parts in order. The old collar was cracked. Gently pry off old collar (semi-hard plastic), make sure new collar is oiled well. Snap on new collar. Put the top back on and tighten screws.
very important to drop 2-4 drops of air tool oil in the ai r chuck before EVERY use - it really helps in longevity of the gun.

Both the collar and piston stop were crack and pieces broken off, allowing air to leak out. There for the nail gun would not operate.

Collar was cracked and leaking air through the top

Removed the head. Removed the damaged collar replaced with new collar reassembled the head works like brand new.

Remove four hex bolts on cap of tool. Remove cap, replace pu collar and replace cap. Hex bolts are very tight and difficult to break loose.

Removed four hex socket head bolts at the top of the nailer and pried the broken seal off, pushed the new one on and assembled the unit.

Remove 4 large hex nuts at the top of gun and simply pull out old collar and replace it with the new one. Make sure you lightly re-oil the gun before use!
