This part is an OEM from Porter Cable. The metal spring is made for use with many nailers and staplers. This item is often secured between the piston stop and the valve piston head, providing the needed tension. The spring is sold individually. A hex key and pliers are helpful for the replacement process.
Took the top off the nailer and inserted the spring. The old spring seemed rusted and stiff. Turned out the problem was not with the spring or the \'O\' rings but with the piston stop. Naturally I replaced all the easy inexpensive stuff first.

... Read more ever existed. The nailer top was full of gunk that looked like sawdust. In retrospect I believe that it was a completely decomposed piston stop. Don\'t know what the old piston stop was made of but the replacement one looks quite sturdy. Took less than 15 minutes to insert the piston stop and the tool worked perfectly.
You tube videos were very helpful and encouraging.
My plastic washer (part number 134) was also broken into 3 pieces. Did not replace it as the part is no longer available. Did not make any difference to the functioning of the nailer.
My nails were driven quite deeply in the wood, fixed that by setting the pressure of the compressor to 85 psi.
I place 3 orders to ereplacement parts to finally settle on the solution. Ended up costing me more in shipping than the parts themselves. Should have bought the piston stop right from the beginning...
BTW, service and delivery were excellent.
Opened the gun and the nylon recoil/pin reset mechanism had broken down into 5 or 6 pieces. They basically just fell out. I replaced the new part. And closed the gun back up. Works like new.
