Product Description

?

This Ball Bearing is sealed on both sides. This is a genuine Porter Cable replacement part that is sold individually. • Ball bearings minimize friction between 2 parts in your tool that would otherwise spin and rub against each other. The balls or rollers take the load and spin, distributing the weight evenly while the minimal contact area of the balls reduce friction. This reduces wear on the tool and allows it to run smoothly. • Bearings experience constant wear when the tool is in operation from pressure, heat, vibration and friction. Because of this, many Bearings need periodic maintenance or replacement.

Start by removing the top cap and removing the motor brushes. Now remove the collet chuck. It is threaded onto the armature shaft. The easiest way to remove it is with an impact wrench. Now remove the long screws that secure the top housing to the field housing. The armature will come out now. Use a bearing puller to remove the bearings a nd an arbor press to install the new ones. Put everything back together and test.

I watched the bearing replacement video for Porter Cable 690 series routers on ereplacementparts.com. It was very thorough and easy to understand with good video of the entire process.

Followed the instructions exactly as stated and had no problems.
Snap ring pliers and a small bearing puller are a must. I found cheap o nes at Harbor Freight which worked fine.

I followed the instructions found on the eReplacement Youtube video on how to disassemble and replace the bearings on my Porter-Cable router. Clear, easy to follow instructions. Mostly accurate. The video called for a 1 1/8 inch socket to remove the arbor nut but my router took a 1 inch socket.
Had to buy some tools I did not have. Snap ring pliers come in inside and outside versions, pay attention, don\'t grab the wrong one like I did. The smallest puller I could find to remove the bearing did not quite fit and I had to regrind the jaws so that they could slide under the bearing.
DIY is always an adventure but I saved my router.
