This part is an OEM part from Ridgid for use on a spindle sander. The purpose of the spindle knob is to lock the sanding drum and sanding belt assembly in place. This spindle knob has left-hand threads to loosen the knob turn it clockwise and to tighten turn counter-clockwise. The knob itself is made of a durable plastic with a metal shaft. This item is sold as an individual replacement part.

The wear plate was broken and needed to be replaced. The spindle knob was worn down

1. Remove the sanding belt assembly or cover plate if using a sanding spindle
2. Remove broken wear plate using an allen wrench to remove the 2 machine screws holding in place
3. Insert new wear plate and fasten to sander using the 2 machine screws and allen wrench
4. Reinstall sanding belt assembly or cover plate to com plete the repair

Got a free sander from a friend. Knob that hold the sander drum on the unit was missing. The knob for adjusting the sanding belt tracking was also missing.

This Ridgid oscillating sander has a belt sander and drum sander. They are interchangeable. But without this threaded knob which has counter clock threads and a couple of hard to find washers the belt sander part is useless.
I was able to find what I needed and get my sander going again.
