Dismantled the saw down to bare cylinder for replacement. Replaced the piston ring but not the piston or piston rod. Clutch sprockets were badly worn so it was also replaced. Internet was a help on how to remove the clutch. Removing the handle vibration spring off the cylinder head was a challenge. After several attempts I determined it w ... Read more as attached with a star headed bolt (could not see it through the small hole in the spring end plate). The shaft on the star driver was larger than the hole so it was drilled to a larger hole. The bolt and spring were then easily removed and reattached to the new head. Since the handle is attached to the tapped spring end plate that was drilled out, a larger fastener was used to accommodate the larger hole. After the repair the engine easily started and runs fine. Lesson learned was that it can be more than a fuel or ignition spark issue as a reason the engine would not start.
