This is a manufacturer approved replacement part designed for Ryobi reciprocating saw. This item is made out of Metal and it is Sold Individually. The output shaft is the part of the tool that drives the blade. The output shafts do have a tendency to bend or break if not used correctly or if you are cutting into extra hard material. To replace this part you would need a hex key/allen wrench and a screwdriver.

This was the right part....The picture helped
I couldn't find my model of reciprocating saw listed but the picture looked right. Tech support took a while to answer, but told me that they didn't find my model of saw either. I had already ordered the part based on the picture and the measurements. It works great and installation was a breeze. Did the fix while watching TV. New saw, $90. Replacement shaft $27. Feeling of accomplishment, PRICELESS!

The rubber boot was stuck pretty well to the housing so I cut it loose rather than fuss with it. It was well worn anyway and the cost of a new one was not that much. Remove the screws holding the clamshell head together, remove the broken shaft assembly arrange all the machine screws in order as you go as they vary. Install the new sha
... Read moreft assembly making sure the blade release lever is on the topside so it will be lifted by the external lever when the housing is reattached. Lubricate the shaft and the felt pad well before reassembling. Remove the two pieces at the front of the blade end so that the new boot will slide onto the saw. I used a water based lube on the housing for the next step as anything petroleum based could deteriorate the rubber. Next slide the boot on with a quarter turn down so that when you finish (with some difficulty) the outer lever will be able to protrude through the opening in the boot. Once engaged simply rotate the boot upward, it will pop into place, leaving the blade release lever exposed. Reattach the 2 front pieces, the one next to the front of the boot will require you to pull back on the boot a little to expose the screw hole. The fix was complete and my saw is as good as new.
Pull back rubber grommet, use allen wrench to remove screw, remove 2 screws to remove base plate. Pull rubber sheath off, remove the 6 screws holding the gear case cover. remove 4 screws holding bearing blocks. remove old output shaft replace all parts in same order they were removed. Total time 15-20 minutes.

Broken spring on one saw and broken output shaft on another saw.
Remove the foot, remove the boot. Remove the screws from the gear case cover, and remove it. Note where all the seals go. Remove the cover plates and the guide blocks. Remove the old shaft. Clean out the old grease, Install the new shaft and re grease the inside. Then assemble in the reverse order.
Remove the shoe assembly and guide plate. Remove the rubber boot from the housing. Remove the top gear case cover. Now you will see what parts will need to be removed to access the old output shaft. Install the new one, then reassemble in reverse.
