I had to take the base and motor off to get to the lift arm. There was a pin that had to be punched out and a bent cotter pin that had to be removed to get the broken arm off the shaft. Pulled the shaft out of the machine and replaced the arm with the new one. Realigned the parts and reassembled the pieces. Worked great!

Removed the head of the mixer by unscrewing the four screws underneath that hold it on. Then removed handle thus freeing the part that had broken. A cotter pin had to be removed.

Replaced the part and put the handle back in, again repositioning the cotter pin

Replaced four screws.

Once the head i s removed it is easy to see what is wrong and how to replace it.

I believe that more recent versions of the mixer require you to get to the part by removing the head cover and removing the electronics. There is a YouTube video showing how to do this.

My older kitchen aid model did not need motor head disassembled for repair.
Simply remove 4 Phillips screws underneath
Separate motor head from base assembly
Looking into top of base remove cotter pin and roll pin on bowl lift shaft
Slide shaft out of base and replace broken plastic bowl lift arm part
Hammer roll pin gently back in position
Replace cotter pin with same size new one if original breaks
Wrap cotter pin close to shaft so that it does not hit top or sides
when re assembled
Ck operation and reinstall motor head to base

The first thing I did was google how to repair my KitchenAid model KSM5. I couldn\'t find anything, but I did find ereplacementparts.com video on how to repair a broken bowl arm lift. I watched it several times just to make sure I didn\'t miss anything. I then went to work with the parts I\'d ordered. My model wasn\'t as difficult as the mixer in the video to take apart. Just a few bolts and I had access to the bowl arm lift. I\'ve had this mixer for 17 years, it was a graduation gift, and I was extremely happy that I could repair it. I hope I can get another 17 years out of it.

I removed the 4 screws holding the mixer head from the column. Having never seen the insides of the mixer it took me a while to figure out the problem. Once I realized that the plastic part was broken it was a simple move to drive out the pin holding it in place and going on the eReplacementParts and ordering the part. Putting it back together was easier as I knew where things went. My repair cost less than $10.00 with the shipping expense.

I have a KitchenAid Pro 500 which was a different model than the one in the video. I ended up looking up the manual and realizing that I only had to remove the pedestal base to get to the arm bowl which is super easy way better than having to go through the head and disassemble the motor like in the video. The repair was super easy. I jus t had to remove 4 giant screws on the underside of the head.

Once open, you clearly see what is wrong as it is the only plastic piece in the machine. It did require the use of a punch which we did not have so we used a hammer and matched the size of an Allen wrench to the metal C ring and lightly tapped it out, a cotter pin had to be removed as well and then just slid the replacement part in and DONE. Reassembled the machine back together and tested that bad boy out. Works great!! The part was $10 with shipping and IGÇÖm back to making delicious homemade whipped cream again.
