Protection door broke when removing paint from lap siding

Hooked left side of protection cap on bar.
Moved protection as far to the left compressing spring.
Made sure plastic arms lined up with bar.
Snapped into place.
Checked protection cap for easy lock and movement.

2. Small plastic prongs on the door clip over a tiny axle on one side of a spring around the axle, and those prongs are what breaks. To install a new door simply press the spring down on the side opposite the small clip that holds the door shut and press the door home on the axle, it\'s that easy.
3. I will say that the doors are an important safety feature as this is a serious tool with plenty of power behind blades spinning very close to the users fingers. Using the tool requires you to hold it at every angle in awkward positions up on a ladder, and the flying chips of, in my case, lead paint mean that the you need to wear goggles or face shield that can fog up and hearing protection. You can use the tool with a door or two missing but the vacuum attachment will not suck up nearly as many particles and you\'ll have zero chance of do-overs if you accidentally grab the tool too close to the business end.
