reversing button on a 20 volt Dewalt hex drive impact driver was worn and not working properly. It would not fullly engage the reversing switch on the trigger switch.

Split the case by removing the t8 screws that hold the 2 halves together. Carefully separate the 2 halves and remove the black plastic button piece. Replace it with the new one. Upon careful examination I discovered some pieces of white plastic residue inside the housing at the trigger area. The old button was probably OK and the problem was caused by this residue which looked like something that was spilled on the tool. I purchased this tool used and did not know the history of it. I reassembled the 2 halves with the T8 screws and tested it. It worked OK. I since have used it on several jobs and worked satisfactorily. I repair commercial laundry equipment.
