The tip is made out of plastic and attaches to the pad tip. This is an OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer and used in Black & Decker sanders. If it becomes broken it will need to be replaced and a screwdriver will be needed for replacement. This tip is sold individually and includes a metal Phillips-head screw.

Removed Platen and Pad assembly by removing special screws. (3) and pushing inward the plastic clips.
Inserted new Platen by pushing in clips. Fastened new screws. New tip and tip pad were extra for future replacements.
