Unscrew the two star head machine screws that hold the blade chuck on, careful not to loose the two nuts and washers. Reattach new blade chuck using old screws, nuts, and washers.

Remove the blade chuck. Saved all the screws and set screw for reassembly. Install new blade chuck and reassembled various screws, etc.

It appears this is a common repair. Blade chuck made from white metal. Probably weak point in design.

Bad threads

After noticing the thumb screw at a slight angle I replaced chuck , for the 3rd time, thumb screw and set screw fixing the problem of blades popping off or losing tension. The problem seems to be the chuck being made from cast aluminum when it should be made from steel to last longer, or at least a steel thread insert

First I did an inspection to see what the current parts looked like and if I could fix them locally. I had watched many videos on YouTube about repair and maintenance of the DeWalt scroll saw so I know what to do. After having more issues than necessary and lots of projects to cut I ordered all the parts. The replacement was straight forw ard and took little time.
The exploded parts list on the web site was very helpful. On reassembly I did get one plastic washer backwards but after looking at the parts list is was a east and quick fix.

R & R the blade clamp and replaced the clamp knob.
Want to pass on some information that I learned. Dewalt put that clamp knob on there for a reason. When you think that your poor lil fingers hurt from loosening and tightening & you want to start adding aftermarket knobs to ease the pain. Save yourself the trouble & expense. They ar e too heavy and the add to much pressure to the alum threads inside that blade clamp. We find out sometimes that we are not smarter than the manufacturer & the engineers that design these machines. My saw was bought in 1997, used it daily. Six months ago I added this alum knob, top & bottom and well you know the rest.
