This is a genuine DeWALT, Black & Decker, and Porter Cable replacement part used in compatible grinders. The spindle and gear assembly goes next to the spring washer. You may need a screwdriver when replacing this item. It is made out of metal and will require replacing if it breaks. This is available as an individual replacement part.
I took the gear housing off remove the gear assembly and the pinion gear replaced it with a new one (gear assembly and pinion) reattach the gear housing plugged it in tried it work just fine
1. Removed screws
2. Removed spindle and gear assembly
3. Pulled old bushing and installed new bushing
4. Installed new lube.
5. Installed new spindle and gear assembly
6. Installed screws
