It is a genuine item that is supplied by the original equipment manufacturer for use with Fein grinders. The purpose of this carbon brush is to conduct the current in an electric motor that powers the tool. Unfortunately, over time it will wear out and it may begin to fail eventually requiring a replacement. Keep in mind this high-quality carbon brush is sold individually. Note, the brush holder is sold separately. Please make sure to refer to the appropriate diagrams of your model for the correct location and application of this component.
I took everything apart before ordering parts and made sure I knew how I did it so putting it back together would be a breeze. There are only 6 screws to take out before everything comes apart to the transfer case (2 on top, 4 on transfer case). You have to take the transfer case off to get at the 4 screws that hold the motor housing. The
... Read morese are located INSIDE the top half of the transfer case (LOTS of gooey lubricant, may not be visible). The motor\'s top bearing is pressed into the motor housing. A good hard tug can do the trick, otherwise if yours is broken like mine, I just busted it out. 2 more screws hold the coil for the motor and can be taken out to replace the motor housing or the coils.
I also had a brush and brush holder break on me (twice). Once you get the brush holder in place do your best to leave it alone. If you take it out, you risk breaking the flange that holds it to the motor housing, requiring you to order yet another part (albeit relatively cheap).
