Removed the screws from the housing, then separated them, keeping all of the parts in one half. Removed the solder from the switch wires and the battery holder with a soldering. Soldered the new battery holder on. Then screwed the housings together.

Dis-assembled drill and replaced battery holder part. Re-assembled case and tried battery pushed all the way in and worked fine.

difficulty of putting back together the trigger mechanism

Replacing this part requires complete diss-assembly (excepting the sealed motor) of the drive train and trigger mechanism. Cleanliness is critical to not get dirt particles into gear train.
It is easy once disassembled to remove old and resolder new battery holder in place but the reassembly is a little tricky
It likely took l onger overall than necessary because I let a few days lapse rather than immediately soldering and putting back in while the disassembly was fresh in my mind
