After checking start capacitor and finding it was good I removed check valve and found it had came apart inside. This caused air pressure to go back into the pump causing motor to over load and pop breaker. New check valve fixed problem.

Removed the old Check Valve and Ferrule. Cleaned the threads with steel wool. Wrapped one end of the threads with Teflon tape and put it all back together and tightened all parts. Note: the check valve is installed very tight. You may need a pipe to go over your wrench for leverage to remove it..

Did research and learned problem not caused by control valve but more likely the check valve. Removing old check valve very easy although very tight quarters on Kobalt 30 Gallon vertical compressor. New check valve fit perfectly, however, the body of the new check valve was shorter than the old check valve so the aluminum tube that conne cts from the pump to the check valve was about 3/4\" too short. Found a piece of aluminum 1/2\" pipe in the shop, bent it, replaced the two 1/2\" compression sleeves and installed. In all, took about 1 hour and everything works perfectly.

Compressor tank check valve wore out (leaking air)

1. Disconnected the air line from the pump to the check valve.
2. Removed the old check valve from the tank inlet.
3. Replaced the check valve with the new unit.
4. Reconnected the air line from the pump.

Tube wrenches are the best tools for this repair however, a combination wrench can be used, just go eas y not to round off or flatten the compression fitting nuts. I do not recommend adjustable wrenches, pliers, or other slip joint, or locking style pliers. Get a good solid wrench that fits correctly!
