Removed motor and filter assembly (it is attached to the top of vacuum) and took off old filter. Put on new and secured it with the nut., Done!

fiter nut missing

purchased three filter nuts to ensure that I always have one for the vacuum filter. Just screwed the nut in place. put the others away in a safe place for when someone throws the filter nut away
