Its purpose is to ensure the air that goes into the unit is free of dust and other contaminants. Engine was not getting any gas. Would not run.

Engine had set up for almost 3 years. Old gas in the carburetor gummed it up so bad it needed to be replaced. When I took off the air element it fell apart so it was replaced also. Carburetor is held on by only 2 nuts. Take the nuts off and remove the gas hose. Take the carburetor off trying not to damage the gaskets. If you tear the gask ets you will have to replace them. Put new carburetor on and replace gas hose and air breather. Turn gas back on and turn engine switch on. Pull starter rope 3 or 4 times with choke on and engine started. Yea

Removed old Carb...replaced with new one and also replaced air Filter Element..Cranked on first pull. 30 min total time..this was for a 5500 watt Generator.

Leaking fuel bowl gasket.

1. Remove leaking gas bowl and air cleaner.
2. Clean all gasket residue from parts and engine
3. Placed a thin coat of gasket sealer on the engine side
4. Replace parts and tighten fasteners.

Carburetor was leaking fuel.

1. Removed air cleaner.
2. Disengaged linkage and removed carburetor.
3. Removed bottom bowl of carburetor.
4. Removed float, changed pin and replaced float.
5. Replaced bowl gaskets and reinstalled bowl.
6. Replaced gaskets and reinstalled carburetor and air cleaner.

Defective gaskets and air filter

Removed air cleaner box and removed carb. Replaced gasket on each side of carb and then reinstalled. Replaced air filter element with new one after soaking it in oil.
