Simple replacement
I'm not sure if it's the fuel pump or the motor. The fuel pump isn't pumping enough fuel to keep the carburetor full enough to run. All parts are new at this point, even the hose that goes into the valve cover and valve cover gasket since I adjusted the valves while trying to figure this issue out. I tried and off brand pump and it did the same thing. I'm going to put an electric one on and see what that does. I bet it will solve the problem...

1. Removed the 3 gas lines attached to pump, noticing which one was input, out put the other was marked with a P (pulse),
2, Removed the 2 screws / bolts holing the pump in place,
3, Bolted in the new pump
4. Reattached hoses
5. Started turning the engine over, NOTICED GAS in FILTER now
6, Finally
... Read more hit and fired up and now runs fine, like it always has for the past 10 + years
The mower had been sitting for a couple of years, so I drained the gas and decided to replace the fuel filter and used the carburetor kit. Was very easy to fix.
1. Clean the fuel lines.
2. Replaced the fuel filter.
3. Cleaned the fuel tank.
4. By process of elimination we replaced the fuel pump. It took less than 10 minutes.
