Followed a YouTube video. That was great, and first time I adjusted valves. I was pleased that the replacement gasket was genuine Briggs and Stratton, and not a copy. Delivery was speedy.

Seems B&S OHV motors are known for leaking between the cylinder and push rod chamber. Head was warped, so flattened on a glass plate with sand paper. Cylinder was flat. Had to torque 20 inch pounds higher than spec to get it to seal.
Hardest part was the lower muffler bolt. Who ever designed it was an idiot.
This was the s econd repair after fixing the damage caused by the butterfly screws coming out and going through the engine. Again, bad design on B&S part.

Received two lawn tractors, an old Western Auto, Wizard, with a 12.5HP Briggs and Stratton, blowing smoke and running like crap. And a Bolens MTD with a 13.5HP Brigs and Stratton, also blowing smoke and running bad. Replaced head gaskets, on both mowers, and the problems stopped. Additionally, we seem to pick up a little extra power. < br />
Blown head gasket caused me to have to replace the plug, so I decided to do a general tune up on them both, to include plus, air filter, and oil change.

Thanks for having the parts available.
