The 8hp Briggs on my Little Wonder push blower had a bad seal and the crankcase gasket was questionable, needed to be replaced to replace the oil seal. Engine was removed from machine and put on the bench. Typical gasket, all mating surfaces carefully cleaned. Gasket was the correct fit, the 6 bolts were cleaned, locking agent applied, b ... Read more olts were torqued in steps to specified torque.
The new oil seal was installed with the crankcase cover off, lubricated. When installing the crankcase cover, the seal was carefully aligned over the crankshaft, and the cover placed on the engine block just enough to contact the governor gear. The gear was gently rotated with a pick so the teeth meshed with the cam gear. The cover then moved into place.

First I had to disassembled the Baker Chipper Vac in order to get the engine off. Pulling the rotor head off the crankshaft end took some time with a shop made puller. Once I got that off it was easy enough to split the case and determine that the rod and piston along with the crankshaft surface were ok. What had seized was the crank ... Read more bearing on the inside of the case. Once I got lubrication to it it started to turn freely. At that point I decided to go no further and ordered parts from Ereplacementparts. Engine is probably 30 years old but Ereplacementparts had what I needed for the Briggs and Stratton.
