Product Description

?

This is a Ball Bearing that is sealed on both sides. This is a genuine Makita replacement part that is sold individually. • Ball bearings minimize friction between 2 parts in your tool that would otherwise spin and rub against each other. The balls or rollers take the load and spin, distributing the weight evenly while the minimal contact area of the balls reduce friction. This reduces wear on the tool and allows it to run smoothly. • Bearings experience constant wear when the tool is in operation from pressure, heat, vibration and friction. Because of this, many Bearings need periodic maintenance or replacement.

Removed bearing and insulation washer from Makita 4\" angle grinder.
These were worn out and melted into the plastic housing.
Cleaned up area for new bearing.
Used small plastic head hammer to install bearing onto shaft and carefully reassembled the armature assembly into the housing.
Greased up all gears and f inished the assembly.
This grinder was inherited from my father-in-law which he purchased in 1981.
It was used extensively, and now it is back in service.
These parts fit perfectly!

Removed end cap, power cord, and switch. Removed guard, wheel shaft from gearcase, and removed gearcase. Removed motor brushes and rotor from main body of grinder. Had to use hammer, punches, and a small clamp to remove the old bearing. I also had to replace the main motor housing/body of the grinder and the switch holder due to they were melted from the failed bearing. Had to swap motor windings to new housing which was a bit of a challenge to get brush wires hooked back up. Installed new washer and bearing. Reassembled with new switch holder and all other old parts. Works good as new now.

The original plastic case had suffered some distortion from heat generated by the bad bearing. Upon removal of the motor from the case , the area in question had to be repaired in order to hold the bearing tight. I simply applied some jb weld to the needed spots, applied petroleum jelly to the new bearing and back of the motor shaft ( t his would keep the job weld from sticking to them and allow removal in the future) once dried it works like new again.
