Product Description

?

This replacement valve plate assembly is a high quality item designed for use on Craftsman air compressors. It is a genuine manufacturer sourced item that is used to control the airflow into the cylinder. Once the piston starts traveling up, the reeds on the valve plate open and air is sent into the air tank. Overtime the reeds will get worn eventually requiring valve plate replacement. One metal valve plate with reed valves and two rubber seals are included in this assembly. When replacing this valve plate assembly it is also a good time to replace the head gaskets which are sold separately. You will need a wrench set to complete this repair.

Socket set, Wrench set

1. Removed the cowling, which involved drilling out the front two Torx screws, which were seized up in the compressor body.
2. Disconnected the air line to the compressor head.
3. Removed the four bolts holding the head in place.
4. Removed the fan.
5. Removed the screw securing the piston rod to the crankshaft. < br />6. Installed the new crank and piston.
The securing screw wallowed out before reaching the specified torque, so replaced the screw with a cap head metric screw, lock washer and nut. Be sure and use thread compound to keep the nut from backing off!
7. Re-installed the fan, after carefully positioning it so it didn\'t hit the compressor body and torqued it to the specified torque.
8. Installed the new O-rings in the head assembly.
9. Re-installed the four head bolts and torqued them to the specified torque.
10. Re-installed the cowling using #8 self-tapping hex head screws instead of Torx screws.
11. Installed the new drain plug and tested the compressor, which hit 165 PSI in about 5 minutes.

Used the attached instructions and all went well. One exception, the pin removal from the motor. Really needed more directions on getting it out. Just used a screwdriver to wedge it loose. Other than finding time it was a breeze.
