When doing my annual deep cleaning, I decided to clean the brass gears on a bench grinder with a wire brush wheel, which i never do and slightly damaged the gear teeth. When I put the reel back together and turned the handle it would make a grinding noise. I made sure it was not the bearings then ordered new gears. Changed the gears out a nd bam reel sounds and reels smoothly. Even thou the gears were noisy the reel still casted and worked great. Just noisy when I reeled it in.
