Bad on/off switch on sun heater
Remove the screws from the back of the heater that hold the heat box in the wood casing. Then remove the support brackets from the left and right sides that you can see on the back. Then remove the one long screw from each wheel bracket on the bottom. Flip the heater back up right and pull the whole metal heat box from the wood case. Lay the heat box on its left side and remove the screws holding the right side cover on. Note the location of the wires on the old switch and them remove them from the switch. Squeeze the upper and lower tabs together and push the switch out the front. The use of pliers may be required. Assembly is the same but in reverse. Use caution tightening screws as to not to over tighten them. The metal screws will strip very easily. Good luck and have fun.

Took case off the heater, took panel off side, took old switch out and Put new switch in and connected using the diagram we made. Most difficult step was putting new switch in....and we were probably being overly careful!

Question: Broken Switch

metlmastr

My Sunheat SH1500 space heater was loaned to me by my landlady. It was already used when she gave it to me. I've had it now for close to 2 years, however, the on/off switch is broken. The other day, I had trouble turning the unit off by pressing in the switch, and now it won't turn on, the switch just moves back and forth without clicking. I've taken the unit apart to try to figure it out for myself (what a hassle, with all the screws!), but there is no way that I can remove the switch from the unit (pressing on the side tabs didn't help). I'd much rather buy just the switch instead of the whole unit (especially since it was loaned to me used). If I do just buy the switch, will it come with any instructions for removal of the old one and installation of the new one? Please help, this is very frustrating.
Does anyone know which wire connects to which post? Yep I'm that guy that pulled them off without taking note. The switch has post 1, 2 and 3 on it. Thanks!

one screw in the thing that hold the wheel on is longer, remove that one, leave the others in place, on my sunheat they are not in the same place on the caster, and remove screws that hold the unit to the wood case in back, slide metal unit out. take out screws on the side with the switch, the on off switch pushes out from inside out, I pinched the tabs and pried the switch out from the front. wire color is white red black.

Look at the switch. The tabs on top and bottom compress down so it can be pushed in from the front of the unit after wires are attached throught the hole after the old switch is removed.
Can pry out the old switch, or completely break out the old switch as it is not working anyway. The wires shouls be long enough to attache to new switch and push back in from the front. As stated above white red black.
Question: Broken Switch

ccarlton

the on/off switch on my SH1500 is broken. I bought the part. Can I replace it myself? If so, how? Instructions?
WJA
Hello ccarlton,

Replacing this style of switch is not to difficult. To do it, push in on the side tabs, and it should release from the switch bracket. To make it easier replace the wires one at a time from the old swicth to the new switch. Carefully push the new switch assembly back into the bracket, and you should be good to go.

-WJA
The switch is not as easily replaceable as WJA says. I've tried everything and I cannot get it removed from the unit. This is the only part that doesn't work on my unit, and for under twenty bucks, I'd rather replace it than buy a whole new one for over $300.
