Disassemble engine at the oil pan, remove the governor and oil seal, clean all parts, install a new oil seal and governor, apply RTV to the oil pan and reassemble. Torque all bolts on the oil pan. Adjust the governor arm and shaft. Install the governor spring and adjust for my speed 3500 RPM. Worked great.

I replaced the timing belt, the upper cam gear and the 2 seals, one on the engine and one on the pump. One trick I learned was to install the timing belt on the crank gear and cam gear before I put the 2 halves on the engine back together. It will make the job easier because the belt is very tight when new and installing it on the cam gea r was impossible. hope this helps

Removed three bolts holding the pump and engine to the frame. Pump slid off the bottom shaft easily. Removed engine from the frame and placed on workbench tilted back. I used a pick hook to pull what was left of the old bottom main seal out. I cut a small piece of PVC pipe to easily press the new oil seal into place. Reassembled the unit and filled with new oil. Works like new now.

5. The oil seal (after 26 years of service) had gone bad
6. Replaced the seal and put it all back together.
