4 cycle trimmer would start, but bog down on full throttle- leaked oil also
Removed air filter housing, carburetor and fuel lines. I took the fuel tank off to clean dirt/debris off it. It was easier too, to replace fuel line and fuel return in tank. Carb, gasket, and spark plug were simply a take off and replace. Trimmer started on 3rd or 4th pull as the choke lever is hard to get used to. If you pump the primer like 8x, it will start cold. No carb adjustment needed. Apparently the O-ring on the oil dipstick was bad. I replaced both since cost was low.

Ryobi 4-cycle engine blowing oil from cylinder.
Installed new breather fitting with check valve.
Engine is still questionable after new fuel tank, breather & check valve, and new fuel lines. Will start and run on full throttle, but will not throttle down and idle. Guess it is time to bid this POS good by as it is not worth further repair. Its on local website as "free" for any one that wants to use it for parts.

Question: Direction Of Arrow On 3 Check Va...

bote110

So I remove "3" Check Valves from my S430 RY34447 30cc 4-Cycle String Trimmer And from looking at the Diagram on Figure "B" The 3 Check Valves are all the same number 26 . So I order all 3 with hoses . Now does one know witch direction each valve arrow would go? I forgot but I think each has a long an short steam an I taught each long steam was pointing down as I pulled them off ? {I might be wrong} I did take the Carb off and clean it off real good but order a new one any way to replace it an have a spare.

I notice that the check valves have a flat side , would like to know in what direction would each one be?
Ok! So the Check Valves has a flat side ,I went to HD an took a look at the display an if you look at the trimmer if your holding it in operation all Check Valves are flat side up {the one on top flat side to the breather fitting}
Hi bote110 That is great information. I still haven't looked at my 4 stroke Ryobi trimmer engine. We must hope that the one you observed at HD was assembled correctly at the plant; probably in Mexico. Ryobi's use Poulan engines and Poulan has a plant there.
Hopefully the proper orientation of the check valves will prevent the oil blow -by problem that plagues the machine.
I'm just waiting on my parts , I did clean the carb out so I might just stick it back on just too see how I did an if it works my new one will be my spare until the old has to be rebuild.
Hi bote110 Yes sir. Not a bad idea. I had told you in another thread that the crankcase pressure from such a small engine should NOT be that great. The engine is VERY small as 4 stroke engines go. Keep us posted and at some point I hope to have a look at mine.
Will my parts came in a couple of weeks ago , new carb , 3 check valves and hoses . I only needed to replace 1 but did all 3 any way , I reinstall my old carb to check if I put everything back in order after a good cleaning {First Timer}. Today was a nice day out 65 degrees so I decide to tackle this and see if I can put every thing back together after cleaning much of the oil around the engine , fill the gas and prim the bulb and 3 pulls and started right up!!! Purr like a kitten !!! Didn't have to use my new carb guess it's a spare but will buy more check valves and hoses for the future.
Hello bote110 Good job. It is always great to get a followup report on ANY and all repairs done on this forum. You stuck it out, showed patience and were rewarded by a functional machine. Great to hear the good news. Keep up the good work, stay safe, and come back anytime.
Question: Check Valve / Oil / Has Arrow

1269145

Which way is the arrow supposed to point on the check valve which connects two hoses: from the oil pan to cam cover..... on RYOBI 30cc POWER HEAD – MODEL NO. RY34001.......check valve part number is 308826002
WJA
Hello 1269145,

The arrow on the 308826002 Check Valve, indicates the direction of flow of the fluid. In this case I would think that the arrow would be pointing away from the oil pan.

Question: Ryobi RY34441 4 Cycle Gas String...

1162680

I have a Ryobi RY34441 4 Cycle Gas String Trimmer That is not very old that is pouring oil into the carb from a check valve coming from the rocker arm cover that is choking down the motor and will barely run . There are two one way check valves on this unit (the other from the Crank Case reservoir to the top of the rocker arm cover) What would cause oil to pour out of the check valve into the carburetor. I am assuming the check valve is acting as a pcv valve and only air is supposed to go into the carb. Both check valves seem to be working but I replaced them anyway to no avail. I paid $200 for this weed eater and am having a hard time believing that it is junk. The People who repair lawn trimmers around my town won't even talk to me about Ryobis much less work on them. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
WJA
Hello 1162680,

I am having a difficult time trying to figure out your problem also. This may be way to simple . But the Ryobi RY334441 trimmer needs to be stored horizontally when not in use. It cannot be hung up vertically or the oil will go where it is not supposed to go. Just an idea for you.

From 2013 to 2017 hasn't anyone fig this out yet? I'm have this problem also ,the oil is starting to spread around so I took it apart an notice 1 of my check valve has oil around it the other 2 were clean so I order 3 any way . Now I got oil into the carb so I order a new on so I can clean the old one an have as a spare. I hope this will work for me. {I lay my Ryobi Trimmer down on the floor all season for storage even thru the winter.}
Hi bote110 The user back in 2013 replaced HIS check valves; to no avail. I have one of these Ryobi 4 stroke engines but I was unaware it has check valves. I assumed it had the typical smaller lawnmower type breather valve with a vent hose going from it to the air filter box. I will check it further however. 3 check valves to ventilate such a small crankcase that holds about 2 or 3 ounces of oil seems ridiculous. 2 Check valves also is. Granted, all 4 stroke engines emit crankcase gases AND pressure, but for an engine this size; it should NOT be a problem. There may be an engineering flaw in the design of the crankcase and the location of the breather valve, the check valves and vent lines that is the cause of this problem. Some Ryobis are known for NOT having the best engineering and design in the business. They have Poulan engines which are low- end engines. My Ryobi seems to run hot and eventually dies lean (lack of fuel and too much air).
