This is an authentic OEM sourced replacement carbon brush designed for use with Craftsman miter saws. This assembly includes one (1) carbon brush with a lead wire and a spring attached.
Carbon brushes are a commonly replaced part on power tools. Due to constant contact and friction brushes will gradually wear down and will require replacement. It is advised to replace both brushes at the same type.
You would need a screwdriver to complete this job.
• Make sure the unit is unplugged
• Remove the brush cap and take out the old brush
• Secure the new brush with a cap and test the tool

Brush replacement was very simple. Just unscrew the brush covers, pull out the old brush and slide in the new ones and replace the covers. Done in less than two minutes.

Was told by a carpenter contractor who borrowed my saw for one cut that the brake would work if I changed out the brushes as they were probably worn. The 12'' miter saw about twenty years old the brushes were not worn down but pitted, I replaced the brushes and the brake works fine now. To replace them. Remove the brush caps with a screwdriver, then pull the brushes out of the brush holder. Install the new brushes in the brush holder and then screw the caps back on.

I removed the screws that hold in each of the brush sets, pulled out the old brushes, blew out any residue from wear of the brushes, put in the new brushes, and then replaced the holding screws.
Now it works again.
